Audit management software: what to pick depends on who audits whom.

The category "audit management software" bundles three products that rarely compete: internal audit platforms, for the organisation auditing itself; quality management systems, for the organisation preparing to be certified; and platforms for people who audit third parties, such as certification bodies and audit firms. Most bad buying decisions here come from comparing products across those three groups as though they were substitutes. The first question is not which is best. It is which side of the audit you are on.

Listed alphabetically, not by preference. Each product is described by its category and the audience it serves, from its own public documentation. Third-party pricing is omitted because most of it is quote-based and an approximate number would be worse than none.

The criteria that decide, in order.

If you only have time to check five things, check these. They are ordered by how much they usually change the decision.

  1. Which side of the audit you are on: auditing yourself, preparing to be audited, or auditing clients. This eliminates two thirds of the market before you see a demo.
  2. How documents arrive. If the real bottleneck is getting files out of the audited client, an internal document system does not solve it, however good it is.
  3. Pricing model against team shape. Per-seat pricing punishes small firms with many occasional auditors; per-report pricing punishes high volume.
  4. Where the data sits and what is done to it. In an audit the documents belong to someone else, and the auditor answers to the audited client for where they ended up.
  5. Whether the standard you need is genuinely covered. "Supports ISO 9001" can mean a checklist template or a clause-by-clause check, and the difference is the entire job.

What people ask.

What is the best audit management software for a small firm?
It depends which audits you run. If you audit clients, look for a platform built to collect documents from third parties and for pricing that is not per seat. If you run internal audit inside your own organisation, look for a light internal audit platform — that is a different category, and enterprise platforms are too expensive and too heavy at that size.
How much does audit management software cost per year?
Most vendors on this list sell by quote and do not publish prices, so any range given here would be invented. What can be said is the model: enterprise platforms tend to charge per seat and per module, which punishes small teams with occasional auditors; foraudits charges per reviewed report, with no per-seat cost.
Can a quality management system be used to audit clients?
Poorly. A quality management system organises the documents of the organisation running it. Auditing clients requires the opposite: getting documents that sit outside, from people with no access to your system and no obligation to learn it.
Is foraudits a certification body?
No. foraudits is not a certification body and is not accredited to certify. It reviews the report against the standard and returns the analysis; the decision and the signature stay with the competent body.
